Within the framework products miniaturization, assembly of miniaturized parts is dominated by capillary forces, at least for components with a size ranging from a few tens of microns up to a few millimeters. This tutorial presents the basics for capillary forces modelling and measurement. Design rules will be presented in relation with the development of a capillary gripper. Flexible assembly based on the use of robotic assembly and fluidid self-alignment properties will also be discussed.
